Each item is inspected closely and any flaws that are found will be disclosed and shown in pictures. Aluminum bride's baskets, popular from the 1930s to 1950s, are mid-century, often hand-wrought, affordable alternatives to the elaborate silver-plated glass Victorian (1860s–1910s) originals. Makers like THAMES created these, featuring, for example, delicate aluminum frames with glass or porcelain inserts, serving as decorative, functional home decor for brides. * Origin (1860s–1910s): Originally, bride's baskets were sterling, silver-plated, or Britannia metal, holding bouquets during weddings and serving as centerpieces for newlyweds. * Transition to Aluminum (1930s–1950s): The style evolved into hand-wrought aluminum, often called poor man's silver, which was durable and stylish during the mid-century. * Manufacturers: Companies like Thames. produced these aluminum baskets, frequently featuring intricate designs such as thistles or floral motifs. * Design: These items often paired hammered or cast aluminum frames with glass inserts, offering a more rustic or modern look compared to the earlier, elaborate Victorian pieces. * Purpose: They remained popular as wedding gifts and for use as home décor (e.g., for fruit or centerpieces). Here at Mainstreet Memories we know a little bit about a lot, but we don't know everything. We strive to be as accurate as possible with all items we list. Please see pictures because they are the best description for condition.
