Roland JP-8080 [Equipment Overview] This unit is a true virtual analog (VA) synthesizer that employs a real-time calculation method, differing from current sampling-based synthesizers. It is a valuable Japanese-made unit, described as a premium piece of equipment whose used market price is currently on the rise. [Historical Background and the JP-8000] The JP-8000, released in 1997, was the first generation of VA synths. It modernized the sound and interface (such as slider operation) of the legendary Jupiter series. Its most distinctive features were the inclusion of Roland's proprietary oscillators, Feedback and **Supersaw**. [Supersaw and its Impact on the Music Scene] Supersaw is a technology that creates a rich sound by layering seven sawtooth waves from a single oscillator and slightly detuning their frequencies. This sound, along with the Access Virus, dominated the dance music scene of the time, establishing the genre known as anthem trance. Its influence was immense, and even today, it is imitated and inherited in many hardware and software synthesizers as a core sound in EDM and pop music. [Enhancements in the JP-8080 (Rack Version)] The JP-8080, released in 1998 as a rackmount version, is based on the JP-8000 engine but features the following enhancements: • Addition of a vocoder function • Inclusion of distortion effects • Triple the number of patches • Use of noise waveforms in Osc2 This unit is more than just an instrument; it is highly regarded today as a legendary machine that shaped the very history of trance music. ◼︎ Accessories Power cable Will be shipped in its original box. The instruction manual is missing, but it can be downloaded from the Roland website. ◼︎ Product Condition The LCD protective film is still attached, and considering it's a vintage unit, I believe it's in beautiful condition. However, there is some age-related deterioration, so please refrain from bidding if you are looking for something like new. Click here for the manufacturer's site
